I hope you've enjoyed the holidays and I'd like to wish you all the best for 2013. This year promises to be something special for me. I'm hard at work at my next novel, tentatively titled The Book Knights, and I'm very excited about how it's coming together. It's a dystopian young adult fantasy based loosely on the legend of King Arthur, set in a world where reading is against the law and writers are the most dangerous of criminals. Think Camelot meets Fahrenheit 451 and you get the gist. It features a female main character--something new for me--and I'm hoping readers will really connect with her. My lofty goal is to get the book done by the fall, then ready it for publication. Stay tuned!
In a previous post I said I'd get back to you with the results of my Eon's Door summer promotion on Amazon. It went well. Really well. Over 3000 people downloaded the book and resulting sales are way up, and I even managed to get the book's Amazon rank down into the single thousands. It's amazing what can happen when people can find your book--and that was the purpose of the promotion. This all happened during the summer months when book sales tend to be significantly slower than the rest of the year.
As we move into the new school year (by the way, I'm a teacher as well as a writer of fantasy), I'm hoping to get Eon's Door into more classrooms. If you're a teacher interested in reading Eon's Door with your grade 7, 8, or 9 Language Arts/English class, you'll be happy to know that you can download a free comprehensive novel study unit from www.jgmckenney.com (just scroll to the bottom of the Home page and click on the pdf). If you're a grade 7, 8, or 9 student who loves fantasy, tell your teacher about the book and the unit. A number of schools in Canada and the U.S. have already used the Eon's Door Novel Study Unit with great success, and I'm hoping that many more will take advantage of this free resource.
Happy reading!
I'm elated with the results of my 5 day Amazon free book promotion. Over 3000 copies of Eon's Door were downloaded and I managed to get to #1 in Children's ebooks/Action and Adventure, and #2 in Fantasy/Epic. That was beyond my expectations. Paid sales have had a little bump and I'm eager to see how things will play out over the next few weeks. Stay tuned.
